Mack Recall Covers 3,096 Anthem and Pioneer Trucks Over Detaching Bezels

October 12, 2026 11 min read

NHTSA campaign 26V631 covers 3,096 Mack Anthem and Pioneer trucks whose intake or grille bezels may detach and become a road hazard; free inspections and repairs are planned.

NHTSA lists campaign 26V631

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall data identifies campaign 26V631000, received October 1, 2026, from Mack Trucks, Inc. The manufacturer campaign number is SC0501. The federal record lists 3,096 potentially affected vehicles.

The recall covers two Mack model lines

The affected population includes certain model-year 2026–2027 Mack Anthem AN (4) trucks and model-year 2025–2027 Mack Pioneer PR (4) trucks. Model and model year identify the population described by the campaign, but they do not prove that a particular truck is included; the VIN lookup or dealer confirmation controls.

Intake and grille bezels may detach

According to NHTSA's campaign summary, the intake and grille bezels may separate from the vehicle. The federal component classifications include exterior trim and the grille or active-shutter area. A bezel that leaves the truck can become debris in the travel lane.

The stated risk is to other road users

NHTSA says a detached bezel can become a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing crash risk. The recall record does not describe a braking, steering or engine failure and does not list a park-it or park-outside warning. Fleets should respond to the defect that was actually reported without minimizing the debris hazard or adding unsupported restrictions.

The remedy is free

Mack dealers will inspect the affected area, replace intake and grille bezels and install cable ties as necessary, at no charge. The exact work for an individual truck depends on the inspection and manufacturer repair instructions. A fleet-installed improvised fastener should not be represented as completion of the recall unless an authorized repair process confirms it.

Owner letters are expected November 30

NHTSA's record says owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 30, 2026. Fleets do not need to wait for a paper letter to begin checking VINs, confirming contact information or contacting a Mack dealer. Newly purchased or reassigned equipment deserves the same review.

VINs became searchable October 8

The campaign record states that involved VINs would become searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 8, 2026. Because this report is published after that date, owners and fleet managers can use the official VIN lookup now. Search each 17-character VIN rather than assuming that every truck within the listed model years is recalled.

Mack identifies the campaign as SC0501

Owners can refer to manufacturer recall SC0501 when speaking with Mack or a dealer. NHTSA's record lists Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Keep the VIN, mileage, fleet unit number, inspection observations, appointment date and repair documentation together.

Drivers should report loose or missing trim

During pre-trip and post-trip checks, drivers can look for visibly loose, displaced, cracked or missing intake and grille trim without disassembling the truck. A suspected defect should be reported through the carrier's normal vehicle-defect process. The carrier or dealer—not the driver at roadside—should determine repair instructions and safe disposition.

Fleets should reconcile the recall against the asset list

Export the active Anthem and Pioneer VIN roster, run each VIN through the official lookup and mark confirmed, not affected, scheduled and completed statuses. Include leased and recently acquired units, and verify that sold or transferred vehicles have accurate owner information. Retain the dealer invoice or recall-completion document for each repaired unit.

Completion should be tracked separately from inspection

A visual check can identify an immediate concern, but it does not close an open manufacturer safety recall. Track the NHTSA/Mack remedy to completion, then verify that the VIN record updates. If parts or appointments are delayed, document the dealer's instructions and interim fleet controls without declaring the campaign completed early.

The count is a vehicle population, not an incident count

The 3,096 figure in NHTSA's data is the number of potentially affected vehicles, not the number of detached bezels, crashes or injuries. The public campaign summary does not provide an incident total. This article therefore does not infer one.
